What's Going On at Bay Vue UMC
Advent is here!
Advent means “to come” and is the season in which the church prepares for the celebration of Christ’s birth. We prepare by remembering the miracle of Christ’s first coming to the earth. We actively wait by coming together in worship and prayer, and by reading the Old Testament prophecies of Christ’s coming and the Gospel account of how Jesus fulfilled those prophecies. We actively wait by doing good works that show God’s love to the people around us.
But Advent means more than that. It’s original meaning was that we should actively wait for Christ’s second coming by how we live our lives as faithful disciples of Christ. We believe that Christ died for our sins, rose into life to give us that promise of eternal life, and that He will come again to bring us into the glory of His eternal Kingdom of Heaven. So we wait… and live out our daily purpose of loving God and loving our neighbors.
You are invited to join us for worship each Sunday at 9 am and come as you are. You are also invited to come to our Christmas Eve service on December 24th at 5 pm where we will celebrate the birth of Christ with a dramatic telling of Luke 2, and share in an evening of Holy Communion and candlelight. In the United Methodist Church, all are welcome at the Lord’s table, and in the Lord’s house.
What’s Going on at Bay Vue?
Bible study: Mondays at 5 pm. (Note: Bible study will not meet in December and will resume on January 14). We are studying “What Does Jesus Say About ____?” and looking at the things Jesus says in the Gospels about faith and the things in our everyday lives. This is open to all.
Conversational Spanish: Wednesdays at 4 pm. (Note: Spanish class will not meet December 12 - January 2 and will resume January 9th.) Each week we build on the previous lessons to learn how to speak and understand basic Spanish. The class includes beginners and those who have had previous experience in learning Spanish. All are welcome.
Bay Vue Choir: Wednesdays at 5 pm. Do you sing or play an instrument? Join us as we practice and prepare to lead worship in song on Sundays.
Exercise classes: See our calendar for the weekly offering of classes.
